My Drama Therapy journey.
I have always been in the arts from my Sunday School formative years to date. I’ve been an actor for both stage and television for many fulfilling years and will continue to be for as long as I still get nutured by the creativity of the drama process... I treasure undeniable moments of self-discovery in the rehearsal process, the process on stage where I get so close to self such that I always finished a project a better person than when I started, a process of self–discovery and personal growth that the drama process affords me. I knew then when I grew in the profession that there was value in that process that was more than just entertainment. That experience stayed with me over the years as I searched for that value - I found it in Drama Therapy – the opportunity to use my craft to help others.
Drama Therapy affords me an opportunity to formally extend the scope of my art form from entertainment – a necessary element in leading a balanced - life to a clinical offering that is based on taking a journey with my clients as we strive to take care of emotional and psychological needs in a quest for a better life.
I am grateful to have found Drama Therapy so I can help others using my craft.
Drama therapy, a creative arts method, employs drama and theater processes to achieve therapeutic goals and facilitate growth and change.
Using techniques such as improvisation, role playing, and storytelling, clients are invited to express emotions, practice desired behaviors, act out the change they wish to become, solve problems, learn new skills, and more.
Combining techniques from the world of theater with traditional therapeutic modalities, drama therapy has proven effective across the spectrum of ages and populations, in both regular and therapeutic settings.
Therapeutic Relationship:
I create an enabling environment to enter the world of my clients through a creative and liberating process , for self expression.
